Recapping the 2024 Regional Conference Cycle

The 2024 Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Regional Conference Cycle was an inspiring five-month journey marked by moments of reflection, empowerment, and strategic planning for the future. Each region offered unique highlights, impactful workshops, and key takeaways that aligned with the Sorority’s overarching priorities for the upcoming biennium. This year’s conference cycle resulted in 37,086 attendee registrations across all seven regions. As sorors gathered in each region, the focus remained on moving forward with fortitude, as guided by International President Elsie Cooke-Holmes’ biennial theme. She underscored this sentiment through her theme address and continued to remind sorors of Delta’s position as a premier women’s organization dedicated to meeting the needs of our communities.

“The state of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, is strong and well-positioned to sustain and build upon the necessary work to empower communities around the world.”

Elevating Our Impact Through Social Action

One of the central priorities discussed was the Sorority’s involvement in social action, with a special emphasis on voter engagement in Election 2024, “D4 Women in Action” and voter engagement. Fortitude on the Frontline was introduced as the Sorority’s social action theme for this election year. As the Sorority prepares for the 2024 election season and beyond, we are reminded that our work in civic engagement is critical. Every vote counts and Delta’s legacy is carried forward by the collective action of its members. Sorors attended workshops in partnership with the Legal Defense Fund detailing Delta’s active involvement in voter suppression litigation across the country. These sessions were designed to equip sorors with the tools and knowledge necessary to protect voting rights and promote civic engagement within their communities.

Farwest Region

For the first time in 20 years, the Farwest Region conference returned to Honolulu, Hawaii. Sorors celebrated this milestone by reflecting on the rich history and contributions of their chapters in the region. The tropical backdrop served as a reminder of Delta’s reach and impact across both the mainland and continental chapters.

Southwest Region

A moving highlight of the Southwest Region conference was the reenactment of the 1913 Women’s Suffrage March, which Delta’s founders participated in. The reenactment symbolized and reaffirmed Delta’s longstanding commitment to women’s rights and social justice. In the wake of voter suppression legislation like SB 1, Delta Sigma Theta continues to champion social action on every front. Additionally, the conference attendees were inspired by the words of Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett, the keynote speaker at the Social Action Luncheon, where she urged sorors to continue Delta’s legacy of activism.

South Atlantic Region

Sorors in the South Atlantic Region honored Founder Jimmie Bugg Middleton with a gravesite commemoration. This touching moment reminded us of the profound legacy left by the Sorority’s trailblazers, which continues to inspire today’s members.

Southern Region

History was made in the Southern Region with the election of Noel Seymour, the first international soror elected to serve on the Board of Directors as the Southern Regional Representative. This moment reinforced Delta’s growing global presence and commitment to fostering leadership on every level. Central Region The Central Regional Conference made history as it was the largest Central Regional Conference to date. A total of 1,154 sorors convened in person for the Central Regional Conference.

Midwest Region

The Midwest Regional Conference broke new ground by offering the first-ever on-site childcare center, allowing mothers to participate fully in conference activities. This thoughtful addition demonstrated Delta’s commitment to inclusivity and meeting the diverse needs of its members.

Eastern Region

The Eastern Region hosted the largest conference of the 2024 cycle in Pennsylvania. This region holds special significance, as it was where International President Elsie Cooke-Holmes was elected as Eastern Regional Director in 1997. The conference also garnered significant press coverage, further amplifying Delta’s mission and messages.

Omega Omega Ceremony

Throughout the regional conferences, heartfelt tributes were paid to sorors who transitioned to the Omega Omega Chapter. We celebrated the life and legacy of 2,059 sorors in our beloved Sorority. Throughout the Regional Conference Cycle, these moments of reflection reminded sorors of the enduring bonds of sisterhood that unite us across time and space.

2024 Regional Conference Cycle: Newly Elected Regional Leadership

Each regional conference also marked the election of new regional leadership. These leaders are now tasked with carrying forward the Sorority’s core tenets of sisterhood, scholarship, service, and social action! We congratulate the newly elected leaders and look forward to the growth the Sorority will see under their leadership and during their tenure.

The 2024 Regional Conference Cycle was not only a reflection on the Sorority’s achievements but also a call to action for the future. As Delta Sigma Theta continues its journey, sorors are prepared to engage, lead, and make a lasting impact on their communities.
