Beverly E. Smith

National President & CEO

A seasoned Delta leader, Smith has an extensive history of serving the Sorority on local, regional and national levels. She has served on and chaired numerous committees nationally along with being certified as a Delta Internal Development and Membership Intake trainer. Smith also served as a committee chair on several Southern Region leadership teams, served on the 2000-2004 National Executive Board as chair of the Long Range Planning Task Force and was the coordinator for the 2002 National Convention, one of the largest, most profitable conventions in Delta’s history. Cheryl Hickmon

National First Vice President

Cheryl Hickmon of Hartford, Conn., was initiated through Alpha Xi Chapter at South Carolina State University on April 22, 1982. Hickmon served as the president of the Hartford Alumnae Chapter, and she served on the sorority's National Executive Board as a South Atlantic Regional Representative, Eastern Regional Director, co-chair of the Leadership Academy, and co-chair of the Documents Review and Revision Task Force. Hickmon is a clinical laboratory technologist and is currently the supervisor of the Andrology and Endocrinology Laboratory at Montefiore's Institute for Reproductive Medicine and Health. She is a founding member of Thrillseekers, a ski adventure club.


Jaria Martin

National Second Vice President

Jaria Martin is a senior at the University of Oregon where she is excelling in her major of Family and Human Services and double minoring in Political Science and Spanish. After she graduates in the spring of 2018, Martin plans to attend law school in order to pursue her dreams of becoming a Family Law Attorney and a Family Court Judge. Martin is the chapter president of the Beta Psi chapter, a city-wide chapter in the state of Oregon.


Elsie Cooke-Holmes

National Secretary

Elsie Cooke-Holmes was initiated into the Epsilon Kappa Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated (University of Memphis) in 1976. She served as president of Westchester Alumnae Chapter and in other local, regional and national positions. She has served on the National Executive Board as National Second Vice President, Eastern Regional Director, Chair of the National Personnel Committee, Co-Chair of the National Leadership Academy, and has represented the Eastern Region on the National Scholarship and Standards Committee. She is a member of the Dallas Alumnae Chapter and was elected National Secretary of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated for the 2017-2019 biennium. Cooke-Holmes also participates in a number of other community activities. After a 30+ year career at PepsiCo, Cooke-Holmes recently started her own company, Cooke-Holmes, LLC, specializing in leadership development, executive, leadership and career coaching and change management.


Deborah Jones-Buggs

National Treasurer

Deborah Jones-Buggs, CPA of Chicago, IL, was initiated November 1979 through the Gamma Nu Chapter at Indiana University. Buggs has been elected and appointed to numerous leadership positions on the local, regional, and national level. She has served as Chair of the National Finance Committee and Delta's National Executive Board from 2008-2013. Currently, Buggs is a member of the Board of Directors of the Delta Foundation. Professionally, Buggs is a CPA and for the last 28 years she has been a Special Agent with the FBI specializing in White Collar Crime, specifically Bank Fraud, Mortgage Fraud and Identity Theft.
