Regional Conference Highlights CENTRAL REGION ▲ JUNE 5-8, 2014 ▲ DENVER, COLORADO Central Region Paints the Rockies Red Deltas attending the 46th Central Regional Conference were welcomed by the host chapters with a “Deltas Painting the Rockies Red” Reception at the Denver Art Museum. In the midst of beautiful art displays and tasty hors d’oeuvres, many of Denver’s dignitaries, including Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock, expressed words of welcome and acknowledged the impact of Deltas in Denver and 6 • Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. around the world. The event also included entertainment. During the reception, Honorary Member Wilma Webb, a former member of the Colorado legislature and former first lady of Denver, was recognized. Perhaps she is best known for sponsoring legislation that adopted Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday as a Colorado state holi-day prior to it becoming a national holiday. “The sea of Deltas dressed in red at the museum was beautiful,” said Billie F. Coachman, central regional director. “The host chapters provided a lovely and unique event to kick off the Charismatic and Courageous Central Region Conference.” The event concluded with National President Paulette C. Walker; Frankie Muse Freeman, 14th National Presi-dent; Soror Coachman and many others expressing their artistic skills by adding their paint strokes and signatures to a local artist’s painting of red Colorado Rockies commis-sioned for the Sorority.
