In 1989, the National Social Action Commission
instituted Delta Days in the Nation's Capital, an annual legislative
conference to increase members' involvement in the national public
policy-making process. The annual conference includes legislative
briefings, issue forums, and advocacy skills development. Featured
speakers include key policy makers, members of the United States
Congress, Congressional staff members, and national issues experts.

CALLING ALL SORORS TO THE 21st ANNUAL "DELTA DAYS IN THE NATION’S CAPITAL"
Dear Sorors: The 21st Annual "Delta Days in the Nation’s Capital" will be held February 6-9, 2010 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel located at 2500 Calvert Street NW (at Connecticut Ave.), Washington, District of Columbia, 20008. Under the theme “Advocacy in Action: Strengthening Our Legacy,” we will focus on creating ongoing legislative solutions for the communities that we serve. This year’s legislative conference will continue to build upon Delta Sigma Theta’s legacy of coming to the capital to meet with legislators and key policy-makers on issues that impact us individually and in the communities that we serve as an organization. Topics will include empowering our membership to be effective social action advocates in the areas of quality education, affordable healthcare, Census 2010, and economic viability, to name a few. Although the pages of history have been turned with the recent election, we must remain vigilant in our advocacy efforts. It is our responsibility to keep close contact with our elected officials about issues of concern in the communities that we serve. Once again, the National Second Vice President, Regional Representatives, and collegiate Commissioners will host the 6th annual Collegiate Forum on Saturday, February 6, 2010. Under the theme “Empowering Collegiates to Engage in Enthusiastic Social Action,” speakers will include national and local young professionals and activists, including collegiate sorors who are impacting policies at the federal and state levels. The Social Action Commission will conduct an orientation for first-time attendees on Saturday, February 6 at 3:00 p.m. The workshop will cover the basics of social action in Delta including vital "how to’s" on navigating the legislative process, legislative letter writing, congressional testimony, resolution writing, and coalition building. The orientation is open to all registrants on a first-come, first-serve basis. Registration is limited to the first 150 sorors. On-line registration for "Delta Days in the Nation’s Capital" will open on November 2, 2009 and close on January 5, 2010 at Midnight EST. THERE IS NO ON-SITE REGISTRATION.
