Advancing the Sisterhood of the Dynamic Southern Region JOURNAL Winter 2017 s35 53rd National Convention REGIONAL COVERAGE When members from the Southern Region gather together, it is always a spirited and exciting affair. As expected, that was the atmosphere as more than 2,100 sorors walked into the 53rd National Convention Regional Sisterhood Luncheon held in the beautiful Mandalay Bay Convention Center. Under the theme “The Dynamic Southern Region…a Royal Flush,” the event provided the opportunity for members to receive a warm welcome and salutations from Regional Director Sandra Horton and Regional Representative Jessica Shotwell. Members from the region were also greeted by National President Dr. Paulette C. Walker; First Vice President Beverly E. Smith; and 23rd National President Dr. Louise A. Rice, all “southern girls,” who arrived at the luncheon to extend remarks and expressions of their love for their region. The award presentations were the highlight of the luncheon and saluted chapters throughout the region that worked vigorously in their local communities. Vernetta Dickerson, chair of the Southern Regional Awards and Recognition Committee, expressed how pleased the committee was with the “overwhelming number of submissions from the region.” She was joined by Cynthia Hardy, regional program planning and development chair, for the special “Highest of Five” awards.
