South Atlantic Regional Sisterhood Luncheon Celebrates in ‘Gold’ Style JOURNAL Winter 2017 s33 53rd National Convention REGIONAL COVERAGE The ballroom was impeccably set for 1,500 sorors. The requested attire was all white with accents of gold. All of which complemented the theme of the day, “Living Life Like It’s Golden.” The “sensational” South Atlantic Regional Sisterhood Luncheon kicked off with a jamming processional of the amazing regional leadership team to Jill Scott’s rendition of “Golden.” “We came together as a region to honor exceptional individuals and chapters and to remember just how sensational we are —to live life like it’s golden,” said Regional Director Juanita Massenburg. Bermuda Coordinator Rosette Simmons masterfully facilitated the luncheon which included members from Bermuda, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The day was especially heartfelt for Regional Representative Sierra Cunningham as this was the last regional luncheon of her tenure. “The collegiates were so excited to attend the Sisterhood Luncheon and bond with the alumnae chapter members,” said Soror Cunningham. During the luncheon several members and chapters were acknowledged with well-deserved achievement awards. Awardees included: Maiya D. Brown, Collegiate Soror of the Year; Janice Winstead, Alumnae Soror of the Year; and Christine D. Horne, Delta Dear of the Year. Kappa Omicron was the Collegiate Chapter of the Year, and Charlotte Alumnae was the Alumnae Chapter of the Year. The South Atlantic Region is honored to have 20th National President Dr. Bertha Maxwell-Roddey call the region home. She addressed the attendees during the luncheon, reminding them of how sensational the South Atlantic Region is and encouraging them to always do the right thing. From Dr. Roddey and Honorary Member Daphne Maxwell Reid, to past regional directors and representatives to Executive Director Emeritus Roseline McKinney and current Executive Director Jeanine Arnett, without question the South Atlantic Regional Sisterhood Luncheon was one of the many sensational highlights of the 53rd National Convention. s BY BRIDGETTE WILSON Regional Director Juanita Massenburg and Regional Representative Sierra Cunningham with 20th National President Bertha Maxwell-Roddey during South Atlantic Region Luncheon.
