A Time of Celebration, Worship and Camaraderie JOURNAL Winter 2017 s25 53rd National Convention REGIONAL COVERAGE Following the Sorority’s Interfaith Service on Sunday, Aug. 6, members representing 46 chapters of the charismatic and courageous Central Region convened for the biennial Central Regional Luncheon. The event was a time of celebration, worship and camaraderie – all in the name of sisterhood. Regional Director Jacqueline Dillard and Regional Representative Jazmyn Ferguson highlighted chapters for their amazing leadership and chapter programming in several categories centered on the Sorority’s Five-Point Programmatic Thrust and Project 13 regional initiatives. Honors were also bestowed on Delta Dears celebrating 50 years or more of service in Delta. The D.I.V.A. Award was presented to the Soror of the Year, and the Red Ribbon Award (Chapter of the Year) was presented to collegiate and alumnae chapters large and small. “It was a moment I cannot fully describe,” said Soror Dillard. “The sisterhood I felt in that room, at that moment, and how sorors were connected was indescribable!” “I continue to be amazed by the talent we have here in the Central Region,” said Soror Ferguson. “It was a proud moment to honor sorors for their hard work and commitment to Delta.” Highlights of the luncheon were the introduction of the We.Are.Central Choir under the direction of Soror Tamala Chandler, Oklahoma Sooner City Alumnae Chapter, and a video presentation honoring the legacy and leadership of 14th National President Frankie Muse Freeman, who was unable to attend the convention. “The spiritual essence of the choir was quite moving,” said Soror Dillard. “As the Central Regional Director I truly felt whole. It was amazing to see my vision unfold and see WE. ARE.
