During the final hours of the PYC, all students were formally presented to convention delegates at Plenary Session II. Three students were selected to speak about their PYC experience: Ariel Moore, representing the Delta Academy; Ashley Bohanon, representing the Delta GEMS; and Trevor Stephney, representing EMBODI. Upon their return for the formal closing ceremony and dinner, PYC students were greeted to cheers and the waving of various college pennants by parents and chaperones. To mark the successful completion of the program, the Sorority presented each student with an iPad. This gift was in addition to sponsorship benefits the students received throughout the three days. UPS gave a monetary donation of $30,000 to the conference. JC Penney gave a total of $11,959 in gift cards and promotional items. Macy’s provided phone charging banks and Macy’s store coupons. McDonald’s provided $5.00 gift cards. The University of Nevada-Las Vegas provided boxed lunches for the students during their campus visit. Additionally, students received book donations from Simon T. Bailey, Victoria Christopher Murray and Demitri Kornegay. Even though the PYC concluded, the lessons learned and the friendships formed will continue to shape the young people as they grow and continue to dream and achieve. s Presidential Youth Academy participants speak about their PYC experience during Plenary Session II of the 53rd National Convention on Aug. 5, 2017.
