the entire Headquarters staff along with Sorors Jeanine Arnett and Dorcas Washington, much success moving forward in a new era.” A native of Fayetteville, N.C., Soror McKinney plans to spend more time with family – a sister, Soror Delois McKinney, and two brothers, Jesse E. and Troynell McKinney, both members of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. She still plans to invest her time in creative ventures and continue her work as a member at Shiloh Baptist Church in Washington, D.C. What’s next for Rose McKinney? “I see my retirement as not an ending, but a beginning,” Soror McKinney said. “God willing, I am going to enjoy having time with my family, friends and the precious gift of time MORE FROM OUR PAST NATIONAL PRESIDENTS s6 DELTA SIGMA THETA SORORITY, INC. to ponder my options.” Soror McKinney was initiated into Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. in 1970 through the Alpha Lambda Chapter at North Carolina Central University where she also received her bachelor’s degree in business education. s “Soror Rose McKinney has given much of herself to Delta Sigma Theta. She has been an effective leader and worked well with members of the Executive Board. I appreciate her, love her and will miss her serving in that capacity.” —FRANKIE FREEMAN, ESQ., 14TH NATIONAL PRESIDENT “To me, Soror Rose is the essence of the violet: strong, ever present, beautiful, and humble. Soror Rose has never clamored for the limelight, however, she always made sure the leader was well-informed and equipped with all the materials that might be needed to shine in the limelight. She was the chisel that carved the marble so others could shape the statue.” —DR. THELMA DALEY, 16TH NATIONAL PRESIDENT “In her 45 years of service, not only has our Sorority and its members benefitted from her leadership and service, but also organizations of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, faith based/churches and community-based organizations as well. As a Past National President and later serving on several positions on the National Executive Board, I have had the opportunity to observe, first hand, her work ethic and refusal to stop until the task was complete. You cannot learn that type of commitment. You cannot teach that kind of humility and selflessness. It is inherent and a blessing. We are all blessed to have Rose McKinney in our ranks and to have her touch as many lives as she has over the years.” —MONA BAILEY, 17TH NATIONAL PRESIDENT “I love Rose. She is a marvelous person. As with anything, things did not always go like we wanted, but she always came through for me and the Sorority. I admired that about her. She was always working. I thoroughly enjoyed working with her.” —DR. BERTHA RODDEY, 20TH NATIONAL PRESIDENT “Soror McKinney was always prepared. Bringing a historical perspective to every situation, I knew her recommendations were in the best interests of the Sorority. Her designation as Executive Director Emeritus is fitting and well deserved. Her dedication, honest service to and pure love for Delta Sigma Theta warrant no less honor.” —REP. MARCIA FUDGE, 21ST NATIONAL PRESIDENT “First, sorors must know that Rose McKinney loves Delta Sigma Theta and she loves the sorors of Delta Sigma Theta. She is selfless and always gives 100% to everything she does. She has a great sense of humor and is always looking for the positive. I was immensely excited to be a part of bestowing this high honor on our beloved Soror Rose McKinney. The history of Delta must always include her many contributions over the past 45 years.” —REV. DR. GWENDOLYN E. BOYD, 22ND NATIONAL PRESIDENT “When I was elected as chair of the Council of Presidents for the NPHC, Rose was given the title, ‘Dean’ of executive directors. Some of the proudest moments were to see and hear other executive directors of the Divine Nine seek wise counsel from the ranks of Delta. Rose is an exemplary contributor to every task she undertakes. Her love for Delta and our members is the driving force behind her extraordinary dedication and loyalty as a member of the staff and later in the role of executive director for these 45 years. Every Delta should be proud of the fact that we were able to have someone with Rose’s commitment to duty in that role.” —CYNTHIA M.A. BUTLER MCINTYRE, 24TH NATIONAL PRESIDENT “I have known Soror Rose McKinney for almost 30 years, since my tenure as Delta’s Executive Director, and I can honestly say that her knowledge, fortitude and passion for Delta made her perfect for the role as my successor. Rose McKinney is a true servant leader. She loved and gave all she had to our beloved sisterhood in a truly unprecedented way. We owe her a true debt of gratitude for the growth, strength and reliability of our headquarters operation. Her skills and knowledge will be sorely missed… her dedication to duty will be hard to match… and her grace under pressure is legendary.” —BEVERLY E. SMITH, NATIONAL PRESIDENT
