Dear Sorors,
The excitement is building in my hometown as thousands of members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority,
Incorporated are expected in New Orleans for our 50th National Convention. The community knows Deltas will
indeed make a difference!
With the Founders’ vision before us, my sisters, we must have a lasting impact on New Orleans beyond our
convention. Our actions should also be inspired by our biennial theme, Delta Sigma Theta – A Sisterhood
Called to Serve: Transforming Lives, Impacting Communities. That’s why I have collaborated with the National
Convention Planning Team and the National Program Planning and Development Committee to create
IMPACT Day! The name IMPACT is synonymous with its purpose – “Inspiring and Mobilizing Public
Service Advocates for Community Transformations.”
Twenty-two public service projects are planned for IMPACT Day on Friday, July 30, 2010. On that day,
you’ll have an opportunity to make an
impact by sharing your time, talent and skills with the people of New
Orleans. You can also make an
impact by donating supplies or clothing. But, that’s not all; you can make an
impact by making a tax-deductible financial contribution to help a New Orleans non-profit organization. All
donations will be handled by The Delta Foundation (Delta Research and Educational Foundation). If you would
like to make a contribution, you can visit The Delta Foundation’s website at www.deltafoundation.net. Just
click on the “Support IMPACT Day” button on the right side of the screen.
You can read about each of the 22 projects and register to participate by logging in to the Sisters Only portal on
the Sorority’s National Website www.deltasigmatheta.org. You MUST register by July 16th, 2010, so we know
how many sorors will be volunteering at each site on IMPACT Day. Transportation will be provided from the
convention center.
I would like all sorors to wear their chapter shirts on IMPACT Day. If you don’t have a chapter shirt, please
wear some type of Delta paraphernalia. I want us to represent in red and white!
As you prepare for the 50th National Convention, plan to “Laissez les bon temps rouler” (Let the good times
roll), beginning with your participation in a public service project on IMPACT Day—Friday, July 30, 2010. I
look forward to seeing you at one of the sites.
